Alan Dale
Kramer
Mar 6, 1958 — Nov 1, 2026
Stapleton
In loving memory of Alan D. Kramer.
Alan Dale Kramer, 68, of Stapleton, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at home on November 1st, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long 8-year battle with colon cancer.
Alan was born on March 6th, 1958, at the Vet’s Club in Stapleton, Nebraska, to George D. Kramer and Darlene R. (Nootz) Kramer. He returned to the family farm to live in a sod house without running water. He was welcomed home by his siblings Shirley and Ronald, and was later joined by Brenda, Janet, Steven, and Barbara.
Alan first attended school at the Garfield Table Country School until the 2nd grade when he transferred to school in town at Stapleton. Like most parents who attended country school in their youth, he was sure to tell his children often that he had to walk uphill through 10 feet of snow to get to and from school. He graduated from Stapleton Schools with the Class of “76”, and returned to the family farm. He met his wife, Annette Ambler, at a dance held at the old Gandy High School. They were married in 1977 at Arnold, Nebraska, and returned to build their life near Stapleton on the family farm on Garfield Table. Alan farmed with his father following high school until George’s death in 2001, and continued to carry on the family’s farming legacy and Golden Harvest Seed Corn dealership until 2010 when he and Annette began over-the-road trucking, finally parking their 18-wheeler in 2023 when Alan began his second round of treatment for cancer. Before his death, he returned to work for Logan County Department of Roads in road maintenance and the Village of Stapleton. Alan knew no stranger. He was someone who would help anyone in need, even if he didn’t really like them. He instilled his hobbies of camping, fishing, trap shooting, bowling, golfing, and the importance of volunteering in his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Stapleton Fire Department for 23 years, and he helped early in the establishment of Augusta Winds Golf Course as well as supporting the community he loved.
Alan instilled in his children work ethic, stubbornness, and how to have fun. He leaves behind a strong-willed, opinionated, and bad-ass family to cherish his memories, which include his wife Annette of 49 years, son Franklin Kramer (Kayla) Stapleton, NE, daughters Crystal Dailey (Jeremiah) Ainsworth NE, and Amber Higgins (Brian, “brokeback”) Stapleton NE. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson who he was very proud of. He had nicknames for all his grandchildren and many family members. Those include: Citori Kramer (Nickname - Poop) and fiancée Seth Glass, Briley Kramer (B), George Kramer (George), Jade Dailey (Jader Tator) and son Brooks Dailey, Cash Dailey (Crash), Ella Dailey (Elle), Cameron Berliner (Cam), Brody Berliner (Bendy B), Cole Higgins (Wee Man), Charlotte Higgins (Bubble Butt), Mackenzie Higgins (Macaroni), Maverick Higgins (Mav). Recently, he referred to the Higgins girls as “the boys” to annoy them and get them to sass and argue with him.
He leaves behind siblings, Shirley Harnan (Pete) Gothenburg, NE, Ronald Kramer (Lynn) North Platte, NE, Brenda Becker (Kenny) North Platte, NE, Steven Kramer Stapleton, NE, Janet Kramer, and Barb Dvorak (Randy) North Platte, NE. Sisters-in-law, Vicki Ambler, Arnold, NE, Aleta Ambler (Conrad Pelster) Anselmo, NE, and brother-in-law Bobby Ambler (Cindy) Broken Bow, NE, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts, friends, and enemies.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, George and Darlene, sister-in-law, Bonnie Cumerford, brother-in-law Donald Ambler, and great-grandson River Dailey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Stapleton Fire Department. Special thank you to the Callahan Cancer Center, Kearney Cancer Center, Dr. Vurksanovic, and the many nurses, doctors, and staff who cared for Alan during his long fight.
The family has chosen cremation and private family internment. Adam and Swansons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
