Albert L.
Johnston
Feb 3, 1926 — Jun 3, 2026
Albert L. Johnston, age 100, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Albert was born in North Platte on February 3, 1926, to Alvin Stirrup and Martha Luanne (Pope) Johnston. There he grew up with his many siblings, attending school and then starting work at a young age to help provide for his family. Upon turning 18, Albert was drafted into the United States Army. There he served in World War II until his honorable discharge in May of 1946. He then returned home and began working for the Union Pacific Railroad. After many years, Albert shifted professions and began working for Bill Simmons Roofing, where he stayed on till retirement.
Throughout his life, Albert was always known to be a tinkerer. He loved taking things apart to understand them, though he sometimes struggled with the reassembly. He was a direct man, unafraid to let his thoughts be known, regardless of the consequences. No one had to wondering what he was thinking. If he had an insight for those he cared about, he’d share how it should be in his own tough, brusque fashion. That said, he always had love and care behind his words, and loved being in the presence of his loved ones. In his youth, he’d take his family camping at the beach and in his older years he’d make excuses of needing rides or having chores so that his favorite people would come see him.
Those left to cherish Albert’s memory are his daughter Shirley Wolf; son-in-law Lorian Troutner; grandchildren Seth and Taffuta Troutner; great-grandson Camdon Troutner; sisters Eunice Wollcotte, Evelynn Goings, and Elma Jean; brothers Marlan and Harry Trisdale; and many more family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Martha; daughter Lila Trountner; son-in-law Dudley Wolf; brothers Stirrup, Joseph, Theodore, Phillip, Francis, Elmer Jean Johnston, and Bob Goings; and sisters Alvie Downing, Wanda Reutzel, Ethel Plaster, and Joann Hiatt.
