Alpha Omega "Alphie" Milburn, age 90, formerly of North Platte, departed this life June 27, 2019 at Stonehearth Estates in Gothenburg with her daughter by her side.
Alphie was the 7 th of 9 children born to Alva and Myrtle (Christensen) Morton on January 21, 1929 in Atlanta, Nebraska. She grew up with her family in a two-room house south of North Platte. Alphie attended North Platte High School, graduating in 1947. She attended business school after graduation and taught at a country school for a short time.
Alphie went to work for the superintendent of North Platte Public Schools and then as a bookkeeper for the Storz distributorship, which is where she met her future husband, Leo. Alphie had just been chosen the 1954 Buffalo Bill Rodeo Queen.
Leo and Alphie were married May 16, 1955 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD where Leo owned the Storz Beer distributorship. They lived there 5 years, where their only daughter Lea Anne was born.
They moved back to North Platte in December of 1959 where they owned the Storz distributorship where Alpha again did the books. While Leo sold insurance, she was his right hand, doing his office work for him.
Alphie was always proud of her family and continued her love of horses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leo; brothers, Claude, Gale, Glen, Charles, and Lee Morton; and sisters, Lois Hoschouer, Vera Huebner, and Wauneta Morton.
She is survived by her daughter, Lea Anne (Tom) Ottis of North Platte; grandchildren, Jared Albers of Blair, NE, and Krista Albers of North Platte; along with numerous nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the North Platte Catholic Schools Endowment Foundation or to Fur the love of Paws (an animal rescue organization). Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.
Cremation has been selected. Christian Wake Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Josh Brown as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2019 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
