IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alyce Ann
Zulkoski
April 9, 1933 – November 12, 2025
Alyce Ann Zulkoski, age 92, of North Platte, departed this life on November 12, 2025 at Great Plains Health.
Alyce Ann was born April 9, 1933 at Valley County to Casimir James and Anna Catherine Zulkoski. After graduating from Sargent High School, she attended Duchesne College and Creighton University in Omaha, graduating from St. Francis School of Nursing, Grand Island. Later while working full time, she received her Bachelor of Science and Master's Degree in Education from Kearney State College.
After working briefly in the Sargent Community Hospital, she worked 38 years in the North Platte hospitals. She worked 20 years as a registered nurse at St. Mary's Hospital, Memorial Hospital, and Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She then spent the next 18 years in a new career as Education Director at the Medical Center. She established the continuing education program for nurses through the Nebraska Nurses Association and later established continuing medical education for physicians through Nebraska Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. During this time, she was awarded the Women of Achievement Award in Education by the North Platte Chamber of Commerce. She also received national recognition by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Center for Disease Control and Infection, Atlanta for developing a Prepared Babysitter Class. She wrote the first Safety Policy Manual, the Infection Control Manual and the two-volume policy and procedure manuals for the nursing department at GPRMC. She was instrumental in establishing the annual Kid's Safety Saturdays.
Alyce Ann had an avid interest in history, geography, reading and traveling. She traveled abroad many times touring much of Europe, the Middle East, Northern Russia, Baltic States, the Scandinavian countries and the British Isles. She enjoyed compiling her photographs and journaling interesting travel albums. She considered her month-long pilgrimage to Garabandal, Spain her greatest journey in faith. This trip included tours of Fatima, Lourdes, and Santiago de Compostela. She took great delight in her flower beds, developing them through the years and enjoyed sharing them with her family and friends.
A daughter, Rachael Ann (Shelley) was born to Alyce and Merritt LaVonne Owen, MD, their only child. Alyce's greatest joys were her daughter, her son-in-law, her four grandchildren and her eight great grandchildren. Because of them she wrote a memory book titled "Forever Spring". She detailed her grade school days, her early life on the farm with her parents and brother. She wanted them to share in her memories of by-gone days when families worked, played and prayed together to survive during poor times. She was pleasantly surprised when family and friends across the country purchased her book, wanting to recall their own memories of that era.
Alyce was baptized into the Catholic faith at birth and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She has been a Eucharist Minister for many years and assisted with Pastoral Ministry to the homebound and the hospital. Much of her volunteering was through the church. She served on the Parish Council, Liturgy Committee and as chairman of the Ladies of St. Patrick's. During that time, she initiated the annual Christmas Boutique. She was a member of the church renovation committee, seeing it to completion in 1995. She was instrumental in developing the statuary courtyard, developed the Historical Rooms and coordinated the first four Pictorial Directories. She did enjoy some volunteer work in the community, serving on committees for the new NP High School, the Library, helped with St. Patrick's Food Pantry. Recently, she and her daughter Rachel composed the "Blessed Memory Book" detailing the origin and demolition of the old McDaid School.
Survivors include her daughter, Rachael (Shelley) and husband Daniel Moser of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Brian (Jeralynn, children Adelaide & Emerson), Sean (Sadie, children Oliver, Simon, & Nora), Meghan (Nathan, children Michael, James & Veronica), and Sarah; special nephew, Patrick Zulkoski (children Erin & Micah) who endeared himself by his compassion for Alyce's parents and later to her; other survivors include her nephews Gregory, Kevin (Christine), Mark (Lisa), William (Tamma) and their families; nieces, Denise (Mike) O'Neill, Coleen Burgess, Jodi (Alton) Wenberg and their families.
Alyce was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Peter and Anna Zulkoski, Frank and Emma Valasek; brother Gerald and sister-in-law Regina Zulkoski; niece, Angie Zulkoski; Special friends, Bob and Margaret Rea.
