Anna M. Stearns, age 86, of North Platte, passed away at North Platte Care Center on February 17, 2026. She was born the youngest of 8 children to Clifford and Margaret (Uhren) Matson on May 1, 1939, in North Platte.

Immediately after graduation from North Platte High School in 1957, Anna married Howard Stearns and together, the couple had two children—Jim and Janice. For 17 years, Anna delivered air mail and freight to Frontier Airlines, a job the entire family participated in. Toward the end of this career, in 1985, Anna began a second job as a dietary aide at North Platte Care Center. It was here that she retired from in the 90’s.

Though Anna faced several health issues throughout her life, she was a warrior and always kept an attitude of resilience and strength. She was a helper, always offering to others when they needed a hand up and loved to provide child care for her friends and family when it was needed. Anna and her husband, Howard, enjoyed bowling at the Lake Way Lanes and playing cards.

Anna is survived by her son, Jim Stearns; and daughter, Janice; 3 grandkids, 2 great grandkids; numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and 7 siblings.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 1 PM with Pastor Kem Reeder officiating at the First Baptist Church, 100 McDonald Road, North Platte. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Monday, February 23, 2026, from 12 PM to 5 PM at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home who is assisting with arrangements.
