Augustine "Augie Tarango, age 81 of North Platte passed away December 12, 2019 at the North Platte Care Center. Augie was born on May 28, 1938 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Joe and Julie (Apodaca) Tarango. He grew up in Chihuahua and Mexico City area, immigrating with his family to Clovis, NM. When he was 16, he left NM, moved around, and finally settled in North Platte where he met Juanita Medrano. The two were married June 3, 1966 in North Platte.

Augie worked on construction crews that built the interstate before hiring on the Union Pacific Railroad in the Maintenance of Way Department, retiring in 1996.

Augie loved Mexican music, playing the accordion in his band. Dancing, especially with his sister Lupe, doing the Mexican hat dance. He enjoyed playing pool and was a good player. He loved his family, spending time with them, and will be especially remembered for taking family rides. He liked to fish and was an avid Husker fan. He is a Gold Star Father to Master Sgt. Linda Tarango Griess.

Survivors include two children, Augustine (Peggy Dixon) Tarango and Vicky (Rodney) Smith all of North Platte; grandchildren, Johnnie Moore Jr. of North Platte, Christopher (Sarah Burg) Tarango of Aurora, CO, Rodney Smith Jr. and Isaac Smith both of North Platte; great-grandchild, Julie; siblings, Maria, Roger, Chuma, Lydia, Romelia, and several other siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita; daughters, Linda Tarango Griess and Julie Ann Tarango; grandson, Anthony Tarango; mother-in-law, Alisa Medrano; father-in-law, Tereso Medrano; sister, Susana Mora; brothers-in-law, Chuck Hugh Duncan II and Fred Nehls; and a sister-in-law, Lee Medrano.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday December 20, 2019 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Christian Wake services will be 7 p.m. Thursday December 19, 2019 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
