Obituary

Betty Marie Bandy, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and family historian, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026 in North Platte, Nebraska, at the age of 85.

Born on November 14, 1940, in Buffalo, Oklahoma, Betty was the youngest of three children born to Earl and Ruthe Weaver. She grew up surrounded by family and carried those cherished connections throughout her life.

Betty married the love of her life, Jerry Bandy, and together they shared many happy years of marriage while raising their family. She devoted her early years to being a loving stay-at-home mother before pursuing a career outside the home. Throughout her working life, she held several positions, with her favorite being her role as an administrative assistant at the University of California, where she enjoyed supporting others and building lasting friendships.

A creative and talented woman, Betty found joy in a variety of crafts, particularly stamping, sewing, and quilting. Yet her greatest passion was genealogy. She spent countless hours researching her family history, carefully preserving stories, records, and connections for future generations. Her dedication resulted in extensive family archives and binders of genealogical research that will remain a treasured legacy for her loved ones.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her children, Tami (John) Shortall and Michael Bandy; her grandchildren, Heather (Jordon) Weyenberg, Crystal (Dillon) Johnson, Tanya (Jeff) Faasisila, and Shawn Bandy; and her great-grandchildren, Rose Bandy-Federico, Abigail Faasisila, Sadie Faasisila, and Cassian Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruthe Weaver; her husband, Jerry Bandy; her brother, Roy Weaver; and her sister, Lois Weaver.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Adams & Swanson Funeral Home of North Platte, Nebraska.

In accordance with Betty’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Family and friends are encouraged to remember her in their own way and to cherish the memories and family connections she worked so diligently to preserve.

One of Betty’s favorite poems was “Just Say I’ve Gone Away,” a sentiment that beautifully reflects her gentle spirit and the enduring love she leaves behind.
