Our beloved mother and wife, Betty Lou Thompson, age 88, of North Platte, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at Great Plains Medical Center on Sunday, July 15, 2012
Betty Lou Dahlgren was born to Cora McNeal Miller on March 17, 1924 in North Platte Nebraska. She was a long time resident of North Platte, being raised by her grandparents, Charles and Grace McNeal after the death of her mother at the age of eight. After graduating from North Platte High School in 1942, she moved to Omaha and enrolled in Business College.
She married Elmer D. Bud Thompson at the close of WWII, on August 8, 1945, prior to his leaving for deployment to the Pacific theater. Following the war, they made their home in Omaha for 5 years, and then moved back to North Platte, where they raised their family of four children. She was a stay at home mom for many years and also worked at the family business, Economy Glass. She also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until she retired in 1985.
Betty and Bud were cofounders of the Lake Maloney Ski Club and participated in many ski shows and tournaments. Later on she became an avid golfer and winter Texan, spending many winters in south Texas. She loved celebrating life with their family and good friends.
She was an active member of the Moose, the Elks and the American Legion. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bud of North Platte; sister-in law, Betty Seeger of Boise Idaho; four children, Linda (Ron) Smith of Chattanooga, TN; Tom (Mary) Thompson of Scottsbluff ; Shelley (Joe) Riha of Omaha; Mary Lou (Craig) Thurman of Great Bend, KS; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established to Fort McPherson and online condolences may be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with the Reverend Tom Wiles officiating. Those wishing to sign the register may do so today from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with the family is receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
