Obituary

Charles F. "Chuck" Brandes, 93, of Deming, N.M., formerly of Maywood, passed away September 19, 2020 in Sierra Vista, AZ. Chuck was born October 15, 1926 to Fred and Josephine (McCosh) Brandes in Omaha.

Chuck graduated from Omaha Tech at mid-term in January after going to summer school. He was inducted into the Army February 26, 1945 and served in WWII in the Philippine Asiatic Pacific Campaign, in the 4025 Signal Corp. After his discharge in 1947, Chuck moved to Maywood to operate the telephone company that his father bought for him to run. He operated it until July, 1977. He made improvements of going to dial 1960 and added two other phone companies and put all outside lines underground. He was the first in the area to do so.

In 1966, he started driving a school bus for Maywood Public School. He served for 17 years on the school, church, community hall, town hall and fire boards, as well as being the mayor of Maywood for a term. After leaving Maywood, lived in Yuma, AZ then to Ramona, CA where he was employed at Palomar Transit Mix Company for seven years. Chuck then retired to a life on the road, travelling in RV's until settling down in Deming, N.M.

Chuck met Connie Cooper at Wellfleet Lake, ice skating and then again at the lake swimming. They were married on March 18, 1951 at Wellfleet Baptist Church, the marriage lasted for 69 years. To this union, three fine children were born, ; Monty (Carol) Brandes, Sierra Vista, AZ, Mark (Julie) Brandes, North Platte, NE, Karen (James) Perdew, Ramona, CA; 7 grandchildren; Aaron (Mandy) Brandes, North Platte, Amy Brandes, North Platte, Adam (Keiko) Brandes, Japan, Jesse (Christina) Brandes, North Platte, Nicole (Kyle) Austin, North Platte, Brandon (Stephanie) Perdew, Ramona, CA and Brittney (BJ) Zarcone, Ramona, CA, 9 great grandchildren; Kaiden, Heilo, Kamryn, Kenadi, Andrew, Lilly, Zane, Garrett and Ryker. Along with numerous other family members and friends. Along with numerous other family members and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Millie Jo and Betty.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel Ramsey officiating. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so Thursday October 15, 2020 from 9-5, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.

Fort McPherson guidelines restrict attendance to 25 and masks are required. The graveside will be livestreamed on Adams & Swanson's Facebook page. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
