Charles Milton "Charlie" Funk, 86, of Sutherland, passed away March 4, 2022 at home. He was born August 6, 1935 to William and Verna (Meyen) Funk in Wallace.
Charlie graduated from Sutherland High School with the class of 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army as a paratrooper. He served stateside and returned to Sutherland after his discharge. Charlie attended college for a short time before hiring on Union Pacific Railroad. He married Hazel Bea Bokoskie on December 31, 1959 in Chappell. Charlie worked as a roadmaster and finished his career as a district engineer of track. He worked in North Platte, Grand Island, Kansas City and Omaha retiring in 1988 and moved back to Sutherland. Charlie attended auctioneer school and owned Family Tradition Auction Service and was a licensed realtor with Coldwell Banker.
Charlie will be remembered as an incredible father and even more incredible grandfather, taking on a family of five children when he married Bea. They added two more after marriage. He loved spending time with his children, hunting, fishing, shooting and all sports where he was an avid fan. He showed his boys how to box and coached his granddaughter's basketball team. Charlie followed all the grandkids activities and was a fan of the Huskers, coaching from his chair for years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips in Montana and Colorado.
Survivors include four children, Linda Boyle of Hershey, Terry (Carolyn) Osborne of Sutherland, Rocky (Joyce) Osborne of Shepherd, MT, Sonya Borunda of Sutherland; eleven grandchildren, Shawn Boyle, Trampas Osborne, Elery Hoban, Wylie Osborne, Billy John Osborne, Laicie Clark, Shawna Pyburn, Charlee Mack, Ericka Marker, Camille Pailing, Taylor Borunda; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; three brothers, Gary (Jeri) Funk of Sutherland, William Edward "Pooter" Funk of Kansas City, MO; Robert (Joy) Funk of Culbertson; numerous other family members and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Verna; wife, Hazel; infant sister; three sons, Jamie Ray, Kerby Joe, Teddy Bill; two brothers, Keith and Don Funk.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Riverview Cemetery near Sutherland with Reverend JA Welch officiating. A reception will follow the graveside at Sutherland American Legion Hall. Visitation will be held noon-7:00 P.M., with family present 5:00-7:00, Monday, March 7, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. The service will be livestreamed via the Adams & Swanson Facebook page for those unable to attend.
