IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles R.
Marlin
April 20, 1940 – May 4, 2022
Charles R. "Chuck" Marlin, 82, of Hershey, departed this life on May 4, 2022, at the Centennial Park Nursing Home.
He was born on April 20, 1940, in Dawson County to Charles F. and Mildred (Griffis) Marlin.
Chuck grew up around the Farnam and Maywood areas, later moving to Omaha and attending school at Beal Grade School. In 1953, his family moved to the University of Nebraska West Central Research, Extension and Education Center, WCREEC, in North Platte, where they lived and worked. He attended both East and West Osgood elementary schools then went to North Platte High School and graduated in 1958. While in high school, Chuck began working on the farm at the WCREEC. After graduation, he attended a heavy equipment school in Idaho where he learned a variety of construction and agricultural equipment maintenance and operating skills.
In 1963, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1965. While in the service, he was part of the marksmanship unit and received awards for his sharpshooting skills. Upon being discharged, he returned to the WCREEC Experiment Station and worked there until he retired in 2005. While at the station, he assisted in all aspects of farming including planting, irrigating, spraying and harvesting various crops. In 1998, he was awarded the outstanding employee award for his dedication and excellent job performance. During his downtime, Chuck and his dad built a new home from the ground up near Hershey. This time with his dad was the most memorable time of his life.
He loved to fish, hunt and travel to casinos. He especially adored his nieces, Jackie and Sheri. He loved taking them on trips while they were growing up, especially to Colorado. He was a long-time member of the NRA. Chuck will be remembered for smoking his pipe, fiddling with it and for the aroma that we all came to love.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Mildred Marlin; and brother-in-law, Vernon Orman.
Survivors include his sister, Virginia Orman of Hayes Center; nieces, Jackie (Dan) Loomis of Maywood and Sheri (Mike) Hamilton of Hayes Center; eight great-nieces and nephews; and 15 great-great-nieces and nephews.
