Obituary

Christopher "Chris" Wade Kemp, age 37, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at home.

Chris was born December 21, 1987, to Lamar James and Lucinda Ruth (Vian) Kemp in North Platte.

In his younger years, Chris attended Lodgepole High School. During his time there, he played many sports and developed a love of drafting and shop. In his last year, Lodgepole High School combined into Creek Valley High School in Chappell, NE, from which he graduated. After graduating, Chris continued his education at Mid Plains Community College, graduating with Certifications in Construction and Auto Body. He put them to good use in his working life, first working at the Sandhills Convention Center (now the Ramada Inn). After a few years, Chris got a job at Masonite International where he built a career. During his nine years working there, Chris received recognition and awards including being the first ever recipient of the Positivity Award.

Chris was known to his work family as a quiet man with an ornery side. He liked playing jokes on his coworkers and always knew how to make those around him laugh. He was also loved and respected for his kind and hardworking nature. Chris was always first on the worksite, getting materials and equipment ready for jobs an hour before the day had even begun. His smile and green stickers will be missed throughout the office. In his free time, Chris could be found taking pictures and adding to his rock collection. Being mechanically inclined, he especially loved when he got to work on old cars and trucks. Green was his favorite color. Despite his work and hobbies, Chris always made time for family and was an especially dedicated uncle to his nephew Remy. He also loved working brandings with his brother and family. Some highlights of his life were family trips to Oregon and two trips to Branson, MO, where he got to see the Butterfly Palace and Dolly Parton Stampede.

Those left to cherish Chris's memory are his mom and stepdad Lucinda and Dallas Wheelock; ex-stepdad Terry Jandl; nephew Remyton Kemp; brother Samuel Jandl; step-sister Kamie Jo Nelson; grandmother Judy Vian; uncles Carl Vian, Dallas Vian, and John (Galene) McCall; aunt Janet Vian; great-aunts Cindy Payne and Leandra Weathers; great-uncle Phillip Keeny and great-uncle and aunt Dale and Carol Black; and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his dad Lamar Kemp; sister Rebecca L. Kemp; grandparents Richard and Carolyn Kemp; and grandfather Verlin Vian.

Funeral Services for Chris and his brother James will be held Monday, July 21, 2025, at 10 am at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Reverend Gabriel Morrow officiating. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery in Tryon, NE. Visitation with family receiving friends will be held Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 2-4 pm at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to offset funeral costs and be put towards a college fund for Chris's nephew Remy. Online condolences may be expressed at adamsswanson.com.
