Obituary

Dale J. Fischer, 80, of Hershey, went home to be with the Lord November 7, 2020, while working side by side with his twin brother on their family farm.

Dale and his brother Dyall were born on December 10, 1939, to William and Marie (Thompson) Fischer in Curtis, Nebraska. Almost four years later his sister Carolyn joined the family.

In 1951, the family moved to establish a farm between Sutherland and Hershey.  Dale and Dyall had a gift for working the land, and began building their own operation as very young adults.

In 1959, Dale built his first feedlot pen with his brother and started feeding cattle. The last time he fed cattle from that very pen was this past Saturday.

After completing basic training in 1962 and serving in the Army Reserves, Dale went on to build his life in the Platte River Valley.

Dale married the love of his life, Edith Broecher, on January 9, 1965.  They would go on to take care of each other for 55 good years.  During this time, they were blessed with three sons and two daughters:  Jeff, Max, Martin, Jennifer and Maridale.

Dale was solid, dependable and no-nonsense, and yet he loved to laugh and was a natural conversationalist.  He could talk to anybody and was a great storyteller.

Dale could outwork men a quarter of his age, even when he was 80, and make it look easy.  He could look at a problem that stumped other people and find a solution. Those who knew him will deeply miss being able to go to him for advice and wisdom or a helping hand.

When Dale was 14 years old, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.  After spending many years as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, Dale was asked in 1997 to temporarily fill the position of Pastor at Hope Baptist Church in Sutherland, Nebraska.  He served in that capacity for the rest of his life, serving not only his congregation but the entire community.

Dale always made the time to help anyone who came to him.  He always said that if you want your life to be blessed, you have to give God something to bless.  And God blessed Dale for the way he lived his life.  He let him be the kind of neighbor you wanted to have.  One way Dale served was by keeping the books for the Paxton and Hershey Water Company for over forty years.

Another aspect of Dale's life was the time he devoted to his friends at the Sutherland Care Center.  Every Sunday afternoon he enjoyed singing with them and sharing the Gospel with them and making them feel loved.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marie.

He will be missed by his wife, Edith of Hershey; brother, Dyall (Irene), of Hershey; sister, Carolyn (Larry) DeVriendt, of North Platte; children, Jeff (Stacey) Fischer of Arvada, CO, Max Fischer of Hershey, Martin Fischer of Sutherland, Jennifer (Scott) Giffin, of Bath, NC, and Maridale (Kile) Goodwin of Roscoe; grandchildren, Caleb Fischer, Kianna (Orion) Wake, Kyla Fischer, Brevin Fischer, Jack Fischer, Benjamin Fischer, Jane Fischer, Joseph Fischer, Nikki Fischer, Kate Giffin, Thomas Giffin, Emily Giffin and Erin Giffin.

Memorials may be sent to Hope Baptist Church or to the Sutherland Care Center. Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com.

The funeral is at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Hope Baptist Church in Sutherland.
