Obituary

Daniel K. Erickson, affectionately known as Dan, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, in North Platte, Nebraska, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on October 19, 1952, in North Platte, to Leonard and Marialice (Burke) Erickson.  Dan’s life journey was marked by dedication, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.

Dan was a proud graduate of North Platte High School, class of 1971. He furthered his education by attending business classes at Mid Plains Community College while simultaneously delivering furniture for Whitaker Furniture in North Platte. His career flourished at Whitakers, where he rose from delivery to sales and management. Demonstrating his keen business acumen and passion for the trade, Dan became a partner in 1985. Alongside his wife, Jeannie Meduna, whom he married on April 20, 1974, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in North Platte, he took full ownership of the business in 1987, renaming it Erickson Furniture. After 47 years of dedicated service, Dan retired on August 1, 2017, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and integrity.

Dan’s character was shaped deeply by his father’s influence, evident in his politeness and humble spirit. Known for his selflessness and generosity, Dan put his family and employees first. Those who knew him well will remember a man who was always ready to lend a hand, a gentle reminder of kindness in his every action.

Outside of his professional life, Dan found joy in hunting, fishing, and golf, particularly cherishing these activities shared with his brothers Tom and Scott. Many fond hours were spent at the lake, boating, fishing, and simply enjoying the company of his family. These moments reflected the essence of Dan’s loving and caring nature.

He is lovingly survived by his wife Jeannie Erickson; two devoted daughters, Melissa (Terry) Kelley and Melanie (Cody) Freeze, both of North Platte; and treasured grandchildren—Hunter (Morgan) Kelley, Josie (Niall Ackerman) Freeze, Carter Kelley, Macie Freeze, Cade Freeze, and Jace Freeze. Dan also embraced the coming arrival of great-grandson Brooks Ackerman and was blessed with great-grandchildren Kash and Kix Kelley. His family circle extends to his brothers Tom (Deb) Erickson and Scott (Carmen) Erickson of North Platte, brother-in-laws Tom Meduna and Ron (Mary) Meduna of North Platte, as well as numerous nieces and nephews: Jason (Jessica) Erickson, Troy (Heidi) Erickson, Jessica (Tom) Scheer, Jon (Shea) Meduna, Jay (Jessica) Meduna, Mallory (Ryan) Dennhardt, and Justin (Brandi) Erickson. He was also a cherished nephew to his very special aunt, Bonnie Erickson of North Platte, along with many great nieces and nephews, other family members, and numerous friends who held him in high regard.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, whose legacy he carried forward with grace, and by his in-laws, Stanley and Beverly Meduna.

A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. on March 24, 2026, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., both at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, located at 2719 West E Street, North Platte, NE 69101.  Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Monday March 23, 2026 from 12-7, with the family receiving friends from 5-7.  Family, friends, and community members are invited to join in honoring a remarkable man whose warmth, generosity, and dedication left an indelible imprint on all who knew him.  Memorials may be directed to Holy Spirit Catholic Church or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  Online condolences, and live stream of the funeral will be at www.adamsswanson.com.
