He was born on January 23 rd 1954 in North Platte to Charles and Maxine (Hunter) Kelley. He grew up in North Platte where he met and wed Shannon Lang on August 20 th 1971 and graduated with the NPHS class of 1972.
David was a hard worker and took pride in his jobs. From helping out on his grandparents' farm to working at Allen's Self Service then Whitaker's Furniture and even driving for his parents at Hi-line Transfer. In 1979, he hired on at Union Pacific Railroad as a truck driver for Maintenance of Way, retiring after 34+ years in 2015.
Not one to sit still, David loved hunting and fishing, watching all sports, was an avid golfer (he and his golf partner won their league this summer!) enjoyed playing cards and gambling. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2839, where he was a past president. One of his greatest loves was softball. Whether he was watching his loved ones play or playing himself-he enjoyed the atmosphere and built lifelong friendships through his love of the game. Even with all that going on he always made time to be there to support his grandchildren and all of their activities David will best be remembered for his sense of humor, knowing how to tell the best jokes and loving with his whole heart. With the birth of his only granddaughter-he was so excited that he was able to add a "cheerleader" to his "basketball team" of grandsons!
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Shannon of North Platte; children, Lorie (Bobby) Norton, Terry (Melissa) Kelley all of North Platte, Jennifer (Phil) Monjaras of Omaha; sisters, Sandra Dagsen of West Jordan, Utah, and Diane (Larry) Biss of North Platte; brother, Doug (Theresa) Kelley of North Platte; six grandchildren, Connor (Shelby) Norton, Hunter (Morgan Baker) and Carter Kelley, Ethan Norton, Larsen and Camila Monjaras; aunt, Mary Lindenmuth of Pueblo Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews; other special family members and friends; and David's favorite family member, Willow, his dog.
