Doris Evelyn Bargell, age 101, of North Platte, passed away June 13, 2012 at Centennial Park.
Doris was born August 7, 1910 to Peter and Martha Young on a farm north of Hershey. She graduated from O'Fallons school in 1928. Doris attended Kearney Normal. She came back to North Platte and went to work for Swift & Co., where she met the love of her life J.K. Tony Bargell. They married July 17, 1934.
Doris received an award in 2005 for 60 years of dedicated service to 1st Lutheran Church. She was very involved in many different aspects of the church, from holding the position of treasurer for many years to teaching Sunday school and being involved in choir and women's groups within the church. 1st Lutheran was a big part of her life for many years. She worked for Vern Detlefsen Truck Stop for over 20 years. She helped with the NP Canteen. Doris was a gracious and kind lady. She will be greatly missed.
Doris is survived by her three sons, Dave (Deniece) Bargell and Gary Bargell of North Platte, Frank (Karen) Bargell of Sterling, CO; one brother Thaine Young of Greeley, CO; ten grandchildren, Jeff (Kathy) Bargell, Derek Bargell, Julie Bargell, Jodi Bargell Evarts all of North Platte, Angie (Steve) Pendleton of Windsor, CO, Joleen (Bill) Durham of Kalispell, MT, Matt (Pauline) Bargell of Denver, CO, Jon Bargell of North Platte, Dana (Cindy) Bargell of Silverthorne, CO, Jennifer (Randy) Porter of Denver, CO; and many much loved nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, J.K. Bargell; her parents Peter and Martha Young; brothers Albert and Carl Young; sisters Melba Johnson, Myrtle Pokrant, Norma Parker, Carol and Hildegarde Young, Linnea, and Norah Young in infancy.
Memorials are suggested to 1st Lutheran Church and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral services will be Monday June 18, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at 1st Lutheran Church at 5th and Sycamore with the Reverend Frank Fitch officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday noon to 6:00 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
