Obituary

Eleanor Jean Dowhower, 94, of North Platte passed away February 20, 2025 at home.  She was born February 22, 1930 to Earl "Chuck" and Lucy (Giddings) Flint in North Platte.

Eleanor grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1947, where she was a cheerleader.  On August 19, 1948 Eleanor married Franklin "Al" Dowhower in North Platte.  The couple lived in Ogallala for a short time then settled in North Platte.

Eleanor worked at the telephone company as an operator, Merricks, and A&W, along with her full-time job of taking care of the kids.  She was a Cub Scout and Bluebirds leader.  She enjoyed bowling, fishing, birds, flowers, travelling, painting, and her family.

Survivors include children, Lucy Maxwell of Lemoyne, Tom (Debra) Dowhower of North Platte, Susie Empfield of North Platte, Jeff Dowhower of North Platte; nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; sister Earlene Parish of Ogallala; brother-in-law, Virgil Dowhower of Eugene, OR; sisters-in-law, Flo Ziarko of New York, Cecelia Dowhower of Oklahoma, Mary Flint of Ohio; son-in-law, Vince Winkler; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Dowhower; and numerous other family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chuck and Lucy; husband, Al; children, Glenna Dowhower, Ted Dowhower; brothers, Earl "Sonny" Flint (Donna), Frank Flint; sisters, Louise (Kris) Krzycki, Judy Bricker, and Lynn Pettit; mother and father in law, Elmer and Alice Dowhower; sons-in-law, Ron Empfield and Jeff Maxwell; in-laws, Ray (Betty) Dowhower, Lloyd (Erma) Dowhower, Dennis (Barb and Beverly) Dowhower; Violet Douglas; Don Dowhower, Dolly Dowhower, John Ziarko.

Memorials may be made in Eleanor's memory to the family for later designation.  Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com .

Graveside services will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with Pastor Ned Cooper officiating. Visitation will be held noon-7:00, Monday, February 24, 2025 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
