Elizabeth "Betty" Geraldine Calhoun, age 95, passed away on July 9, 2026 , in North Platte, NE.
She was born on November 21, 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerold "Jerry" Watts Calhoun, infant daughter, Linda, sister Deanne "Dee" Fleming, and daughter in-law, Vicki Calhoun. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cynthia Brian of Cantwell, Alaska, and sons: Jay (Jill) of North Platte, NE, Joel (Patty) of Whitney, NE, and John of North Platte, NE. Surviving grandchildren are Mykayla, Evan, Madison, Levi, Libby, and great-grandson, Byron.
Betty was very social and loved playing bridge, and meeting for coffee or lunch with her many friends. She was a proud member of Nebraska PEO for many years and single term president. She loved embroidery and needle work and was accomplished in both.
There are many beautiful examples of her detailed and intricate handiwork. Her sense of humor and quick wit were enjoyed by many, easily bringing laughter and mirth to a room. She enjoyed the satisfaction and accomplishment of running the Holiday Campground in North Platte with her husband, Jerry. She loved doing puzzles on holidays and eating ice cream any day.
After Jerry passed away she married William "Eldon" Splinter. Another chapter evolved with University of Nebraska social circles, exotic travels, and extending loving family opportunities with Eldon's children and their families. She lived in Lincoln, NE until Eldon's death.
Betty returned to North Platte, her preferred hometown environment, reconnecting with friends and organizations, and living in the home she and Jerry had purchased for their retirement.
Betty "mom" was a spirited and much-loved mainstay in the family, sustaining core family values, and engendering LOVE. She is most remembered for her giggle, infectious laughter, playfulness, and fun loving nature.
We LOVE you, Mom, more than you or we know.
