Evelyn Mae Kackmeister, age 90, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026.

Evelyn was born February 17, 1936, in Meadville, Nebraska, to Samuel Lenard and Lila Abigail (Williams) Marlatt. There she spent her childhood before finally attending and graduating from Ainsworth High School. After graduating, she spent a year teaching a handicapped child, during which she found a love of teaching. During this time, Evelyn met Donald Dean Kackmeister whom she fell in love with. The two were married in 1954, and to this union was born their beloved children Dale, Darrel, Bill, Linda, and Alan. Her love of teaching was on full display as she embraced her role as a teacher, chauffer, cook, and all other duties of a mom of five!

Throughout her life, Evelyn was always the life of the party! She loved traveling and made a point to travel to as many places as she could, enjoying unique experiences and dining on exotic and interesting food. She was never afraid to try new things and was known as quite the pistol, always ready to speak her mind. She loved baking and cooking and was always ready for the rodeo when it came around. But most of all, Evelyn loved her family. She had a great love for her grandma Hattie Jackson and a special relationship with her dad. Most important to her was her role as a wife and mother, the shoulder her family could lean on.

Those left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her children Dale Dean (Pam), Darrel, Bill (Cecelia), Linda, and Alan Kackmeister, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, and her dog and companion Foxy.

She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Dean, parents Samuel and Lila, sister Lola Meyers, brother, and daughters-in-law Shary, Patti, and Pauline.

A graveside service will be held Monday, June 8, 2026, at Ainsworth Cemetery with Pastor Wade Hudson officiating. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
