Obituary

Frank Ying Sue, age 87, of North Platte, NE died on January 10, 2020 at Linden Court in North Platte. He was born on December 26 th , 1932 in Portland, OR to Frank Y. Sue and Bessie (Louie) Sue. He grew up in the Portland area, graduating from Washington High School in 1950. Frank started college before entering the US Army, serving during the Korean War. He was stationed for a time at Fort Bliss, TX, where he met Alicia Rodela of El Paso, TX; they were married in 1956. They had six children: Lisa, Debbie, Frank, Sherri, Adrian, and Tresa.

Frank worked as an engineer following his discharge from the military and spent most of his career working in the space program. He worked at Cape Canaveral during the early days of the program, on the Apollo missions during his work for General Electric, and ended his professional career working on the satellite program with Hughes Aircraft.

Frank enjoyed watching and coaching sports; he piloted two of his daughters' teams to a league championship in Bobby Sox softball and was chosen to serve as All Star coach as a result. He was a fan of the San Francisco Giants (which was difficult in a family of Dodger fans), and also followed UCLA basketball during their championship years.

Frank was an avid ballroom dancer for his entire life, with his favorite dance being the West Coast Swing. In his retirement he taught dance lessons to senior citizens in Biloxi, MS, where he had moved to manage the family real estate holding for his siblings. Frank was devoted to his family and worked diligently to ensure the profitability of the real estate business as president of the family corporation that had been established by his mother.

Frank was very proud of his Chinese heritage, ensuring that all of his children were given "Chinese" names in addition to their "American" names and handing out red envelopes to them at Chinese New Year. Towards the end of his life he took care to educate them about the family history of both his father and mother's lineage as he came to a greater appreciation of his own ancestry.

Survivors include his six children: Lisa (Terry) Lieth of Kearney, NE; Debbie Sue of Albuquerque, NM; Frank B. Sue of Rossmoor, CA; Sherri (Russ) Reyes of Tustin, CA; Adrian (Loralee) Sue of Medford, OR; and Tresa (Carl) Habis of Medford, OR.   He has seventeen grandchildren including: Ken (Kristi) Patterson of North Platte, NE; Ryan Patterson of Portland, OR; William (Beka) Campuzano of Kearney, NE; Katrina (Steve) Linville of Erie, CO; Nicolas Lieth, Akaela Lieth, and Noelle Lieth of Kearney, NE; Hannah Dowdy-Sue of Albuquerque, NM; Elica (Guillermo) Sue of Irvine, CA; Amie Sue of New York, NY; William "Jake" Hannaford of Lakewood, CA; Kelly (Rocky) Hannaford of Venice, CA; Bridgette Reyes of Tustin, CA; and Chandler Sue, Carson Sue, Makenzie Habis, and Keith Habis of Medford, OR. Great-grandchildren include: Breanna, Derek, Shane, and Tyler Patterson of North Platte, NE; Abijah Patterson of Portland, OR; Alexander, Liam, Lillian, Trystan, and Ciel Campuzano of Kearney, NE; and Paige, Gavin, and Halle Sue Linville of Erie, CO.
