Obituary

George A. "Gaby" Brown, age 74, of Paxton, died March 20, 2020 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln. He was born on January 27, 1946 in Oshkosh, NE Thomas, and Doris (DeCou) Brown. George grew up in Lisco, NE, and worked as a young man helping neighbors with their flower beds and lawns.

George entered the US Navy, serving as a fireman in the Philippines. After 6 years of service, George returned to Nebraska where he hired on with the UPRR as a telegrapher. He worked in many of the depots in the area. On July 22, 1969, he married Selina Strube in Kimball. The couple lived in Kimball, LaGrange, Pine Bluffs, and Paxton. They settled in Paxton in 1973. George continued with the Union Pacific but changed into being a Switchman, a Brakeman, and retiring as a conductor after 43 years of service on November 1, 2010.

He will be remembered as a self-less giver, always thinking of others. George loved spending time with his kids and grandkids in his garage, fixing and tinkering on things, and was known as a jack of all trades. He also enjoyed his morning drives, fishing, drinking beer, playing cards and pool.

Survivors include his wife, Selina of Paxton; 6 children, Robert (Mary) of Holyoke, CO, Theresa Sharp of North Platte, Jimmy (Jackie) of North Platte, Timothy (Misty) of Blackwell, OK, Whitney (Alana) Brown of North Platte, and Allan Brown of Paxton; 3 sisters, Lola (Lacy) Fisher of Stillwater, OK, Alice Johnston of Elgin, NE, and Taffy (Victor) Hastings of Ogallala; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Tom and Louie; and a son-in-law, Rob Sharp.

Cremation was chosen. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 p.m. MT, Saturday, June 6, 2020 at George's garage 205 West 4 th Paxton, NE. Inurnment will be held at fort McPherson National Cemetery at a later date. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
