Obituary

Harold R. ""Barney"" Peckman, age 94, of North Platte, died August 24, 2012 at his home. He was born on August 17, 1918 in Kearney, NE to Roy A. and Pearl (Marlett) Peckman.
Barney attended Kearney High School before being drafted on March 4, 1942 to serve in WWII. Barney served in Attu, Marshal Island, Philippine Island, and was wounded in a cemetery in Degome. After recovering he continued to serve until being discharged on June 5, 1945. After returning home, he married Mary Delores Wiest on February 5, 1948 in Kearney. Barney worked for the Weaver Potato Chip Company for 25 years, developing many friends along his route. Barney was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Elks Club, where he was secretary for 3 years, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife Dee of North Platte; three children, Barbara (Lynn) Cordell of Hastings, Diana (Mike) Halverson of North Platte, and Michael (Gina) Peckman of Tacoma, WA; eight grandchildren, Gabe (Kara) Cordell of Bennington, NE, Cory (Antoinette) Halverson of North Platte, Tish Halverson of North Platte, Carissa (Brian) Deeds of North Platte, Kasey Halverson of Omaha, Myles Peckman of Rapid City, SD, Mikaela Peckman, and Morgan Peckman, both of Tacoma, WA; ten great-grandchildren; six siblings, Doris Clevinger of Georgia, Kenneth of Washington, Dick of Missouri, Paul of Arkansas, Robin of Washington, and Bill of Washington; sister-in-law, Lareen (Wes) Jacobson of North Platte; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Donald Dean, Vernon, and Darrell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 29, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with the Rev. James Novakowski as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends Tuesday from 6-8 at the funeral home. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
