James "Jim" "J.P." Paul Manary, age 82, of North Platte, died June 30, 2023 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. He was born on September 7, 1940 in North Platte to James A. and Pauline L. (Tucker) Manary. Jim graduated from North Platte High School in 1958. After graduation he worked as a surveyor and at Hoppe Lumber.
Jim married Diana Thompson in 1958 and to this union two sons were born, Monty and Kevin. He hired out with the Union Pacific and retired from there as a conductor. On February 17, 2001, Jim married Joan Lamphear in North Platte. Jim lived on a ranch north of North Platte and had always ranched but became more involved after his retirement from the railroad. He enjoyed the ranch life and spent much time at the sale barn, and tending to his cattle. He will be remembered for the love of his dogs, Corkie and Spot.
Survivors include his wife Joan of North Platte; siblings, Rich (Jan) Manary of North Platte, and Dale (Becky) Manary of Wallace; step children, Donald White, Sherry (Sam) Baker, and Alan White, all of North Platte; step grandchildren, Josh Zwickl of North Platte, Crystal Cassell of Florida, Nathan Zwickl of North Platte, and Lance (Kortney) Zwickl of Wellfleet; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Diana; sons, Monty and Kevin; and a brother Bob Manary. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens hospital or to the Lincoln County 4-H. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday July 5, 2023 at The Rock church with Pastor Vaughn Farenbruck officiating. Burial will be at the Good Hope Cemetery north of North Platte. Visitation will be Monday from 12-7, with the family receiving friends from 5-7. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
