James Louis "Jim" Richter, 74, of Sutherland, passed away July 21, 2021 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. He was born on March 13, 1947 to George and Mary "Eileen" (Strong) Richter in Ogallala.
Jim grew up in Roscoe on the family farm. He attended school in a one room school house in Roscoe throughout grade school. Jim graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1965. He enlisted in the United States Army on January 4, 1966.
Jim met Kathryn French in high school and they were married on September 17, 1966. They were married for 38 years and to this union three sons were born, James, Michael and Andrew.
After his discharge, they moved to North Platte and he worked at Sears from 1970-1995. He met many people throughout his career there. They moved to a small farm west of Sutherland in 1972 and he resided there until his passing. After leaving Sears he went to work in sales for Karls. He then chose a different career path and went to work for Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor from 1998-2014.
In his younger years, Jim enjoyed raising cattle and working on the farm. In 1978 he was a baseball coach for his sons and they were Tri County Pony League baseball champions. He earned trap shooting awards in the 70's. He loved his Ford 861 diesel tractor and would drive it as often as he could.
Survivors include three sons, James (Kim) Richter, Michael Richter, and Andrew Richter all of North Platte; grandchildren, Katrina (Cheyenne) Stewart of Georgia, Sean Richter of Sidney, Nathaniel Richter of Sutherland, Zachary (Johnna) Richter of Gothenburg, Alexander Richter of North Platte, Joseph Richter of North Platte; great grandchildren, Archer Stewart of Georgia, Zedric Richter of Gothenburg; brother, David Richter of Ogallala; sister, Linda Boeckemhauer; many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary "Eileen" Richter.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Riverview Cemetery near Sutherland. Visitation will be held noon-7:00 P.M., with family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00, Monday, July 26, 2021 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
