IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jason R.
Melvin
June 3, 1979 – September 25, 2025
Jason Ryan Melvin, age 46, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Great Plains Health.
Jason was born in North Platte on June 3, 1979, to Bill and LaRae (Connelly) Melvin.
He spent his formative years in Sutherland NE. He lived there with his parents, and brothers Shane, Brad, and Travis. As a kid he enjoyed sports, hunting, and fishing. He was always happy when the family took trips to his Uncle Dewayne's ranch near Tryon Nebraska.
He spent most of his school years in Sutherland and was a member of the sports teams, played trumpet in the band, and singing in the choir. He went on later to get his GED. During his time in Sutherland he met his first wife Janel Gamble. This union, while not meant to last forever, produced Jason's first two children Alexis and Hunter who he loved dearly. At this time in his life Jason worked in various fields of construction but was a phenomenal drywaller who always took pride in his work. He was a job site foreman and was happy to pass along his skills to the next generation. Jason always considered himself a jack of all trades, but a master of none. He had the knowledge and ability to build or fix almost anything. Jason entered the next phase when he met the love of his life Denise Folchert. During this time Jason became a truck driver. Jason and Denise married on August 15, 2014, and have been inseparable since. This blessed union produced three amazing children Carson, Aria, and Jocelyn. All of these blessings were added to his previous children Alexis, Hunter, and Elijah. Jason's heart was huge and had space for them all. Some of Jason's fondest memories were of his kids riding with him in his truck. His career ended on a high note with Velocity Rail Solutions. This job provided the opportunity to finally be at home with his family and also provided him with a new work family.
Jason will always be remembered for having a joke at the most inappropriate time to help ease the tension and for his unending generosity. He was a family man first and foremost, an avid outdoorsman, and an amazing friend.
Those left behind to carry on his legacy and memory are his soulmate Denise and his children Carson, Aria, Jocelyn, Alexis, Hunter and Elijah: mother LaRae Garretson; brothers Shane Halcott, Brad Halcott, and Travis (Jennifer) Melvin; parent Dave and Mauretta Folchert, brothers-in-law John (Nicole) Folchert and Jacob Folchert; Numerous nieces and nephews; and countless other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Bill Melvin, brother Billy Melvin, and sister Becky Kramer.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M.,Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Chaplain Ned Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Wellfleet Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday October 2, 2025, from noon to 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which has been entrusted with arrangements.
