Jeffrey Lee McCandless, 52, of Gothenburg passed away at his home on June 7, 2019.

Jeff was born on January 6, 1967 in North Platte to Gary and Gerri (Freeze) McCandless.

He attended North Platte Public Schools graduating with the class of 1985. After graduation he attended Wyo Tech to pursue a career in diesel mechanics. He married Victoria Dodson on May 28, 1988 in North Platte. To this union three children were born, Samantha, Josef, and Kyle. Jeff worked at a marina in Wyoming before moving to Colorado Springs as a boat mechanic. He eventually moved back to North Platte where he worked at Twin Rivers Diesel, and Mid NE Diesel, he was hired on the Union Pacific as an engineer, where he was currently employed.

Jeff married Jill Larson Ostergard on May 7, 2013.

He enjoyed the outdoors, was an excellent craftsman, loved to travel, and loved his family, as they loved him.

Survivors include children, Samantha (Joshua) Thomas of Omaha, Josef (Cassandra Kastens) McCandless of Ashland, and Kyle McCandless of Omaha; parents, Gary and Gerri McCandless of North Platte; grandchildren, Sadie, Selah, Scarlett, and Jase Thomas; brother, Troy McCandless of Blair; mother-in-law, Jenelle Larson; step-children, Abby (Sean) Sabin, Alexa (Joe) Libel, and Stefen Ostergard; and step-grandson, Dawson Ostergard.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jill; grandparents, Howard and Helga Freeze, and Ray and Verla McCandless; grandson, Seven Thomas; and an aunt, JuDee Wilnes.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Baptist Church in Gothenburg with the Reverend Dan Urman officiating with burial to follow at the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2019 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
