Jeffrie Arthur Schmidt was born July 23, 1947 in North Platte, NE and departed this life on October 23, 2023 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO.
Jeff was the oldest of seven children born to C.J. and Marg (Kraus) Schmidt of North Platte, NE. He graduated in 1965 from St. Patrick High School, in North Platte. He attended McCook Junior College and the University of Wyoming. Jeff then enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1969, where he served one tour in Southeast Asia. Jeff was honorably discharged in 1973 at the rank of Sergeant. After returning home Jeff worked for his father at C.J. Schmidt Electric, taking over the business after his parents passed. Jeff sold the business to Knobel Refrigeration where he worked for several years, until he retired in December 2022. Jeff was involved in and held leadership roles with many community organizations including North Platte Day Care Center, Lions Club, Jaycees, Nebraskaland Days Committee including the Cody Cavalry, and the St. Patrick's School Board. An avid hunter and fisherman he enjoyed Pendleton Whisky, good cigars and spending time with his friends and family.
Just six short days, before he passed, Jeff married his longtime companion, Emma Jean McGregor.
Jeff is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dan and Kevin; and one sister, Mary Jo.
He is survived by his spouse; his only daughter, Erika; his sister, Jennifer; brothers, Dave (Jeanne) and Craig (Marilyn); sister-in-laws, Jackie and Darla; nieces and nephews, Sara (Ryan), Marcus (Kristin), Andy (Marie), Jenny, Carissa (LaMont), Katie, Aly, Ben, Mandie (Josh), Tim, and Jeff.
A memorial has been established to the North Platte Catholic School Endowment Trust. Online condolences and livestream of the services may be accessed and shared at www.adamsswanson.com.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 A.M., Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Joe Kadaprayil officiating. Inurnment will follow at 11:00 A.M., at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Book signing will be from 9-5, Thursday, November 2 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
