Obituary

Joan Gail (Kuhlman) Johnson was born August 9, 1931 on a farm northeast of Gothenburg,  Nebraska to Henry and Bessie (Shostrom) Kuhlman.

She grew up in Gothenburg on their family farm, helping with animals, farming duties, and helping prepare meals. She attended country school and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1949. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Christ Lutheran Church, Gothenburg.  On August 14, 1949, she married Amos Johnson. They lived in Colorado Springs, CO and California while her husband was in the Army. They finally settled in Colorado to be close to their sons and grandchildren. She later worked as a secretary at Raytheon in Aurora,
CO. Joan was known as "JoAn" among her church family where she was a member of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, having joined September 29, 2013. She was an inspirational and faithful member and helped at nearly every meal or fellowship event, served for six years
on the Church Council, served on the Altar Guild, attended Wednesday Bible Study and worship and Sunday School very faithfully, including the Sunday before she passed away. Her family writes: "The life of Joan Johnson was simple yet impactful to those who knew her.
She was quiet in her demeaner but was sweet and caring. She loved her family dearly. She found volunteering at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church rewarding and fulfilling. She had found love and peace through her church family and had made new friends in her living com- munity. She left this world knowing the peace of God and looking forward to reuniting with her loved ones who have gone before her." JoAn also loved gardening and volunteered countless hours in grounds maintenance and clean-up at her church, and became known as the "Pod Lady" for picking up countless bags full of honey locust pods.

Joan is survived by her son, Jeff Johnson of Aurora, CO; her daughter-in-law, Celeste Johnson of Aurora, CO; grandchildren: Charles Johnson (Molly) of Duncan, SC; Audrey Heard of Murfreesboro, TN; Anthony Johnson of Fargo, ND, Shawn Johnson of Aurora, CO and Dakota Johnson of Aurora, CO; and great-grandchildren: Patrick and Elizabeth Heard of Murfreesboro, TN and Emery and Fischer Johnson of Duncan, SC. She is also survived by her dog, Ellie.
