Obituary

Kristy Suzanne Bayne passed away at her home on July 11, 2026.

Kris, 73, of Sutherland, Nebraska, was born on June 8, 1953, in Ogallala, Nebraska to Robert and Eleanor (Wurst) MacKenzie.

Kris grew up in western Nebraska and graduated from North Platte High School in 1971. During her school years, she discovered a passion and remarkable talent for dance. She excelled in tap, ballet and other forms of dance, eventually earning the opportunity to compete at the national level in New York City.

On August 14, 1971, Kris married David Hagan. To this union a daughter, Kendra, was born.

Throughout her life, Kris was known for her strong work ethic and exceptional accounting abilities. She worked at a gas station in Sutherland, tended bar, performed bookkeeping services, and later worked for Kerr-McGee Corporation while living in Oklahoma. After returning to Nebraska, she worked for Charles Fuenning in North Platte as a CPA and recently for Dana F. Cole & Company, LLP, where her knowledge, professionalism, and dedication earned the trust and respect of her many clients.

On February 2, 1985, Kris married her partner in life, Morey Bayne, in Gore, Oklahoma at the Methodist Church. With that marriage, Kris lovingly welcomed Morey’s three sons; Troy, Travis and Tracy into her family.

She was a devoted fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and proudly held season football tickets for many years. During the summer months, she could often be found helping Morey irrigate the fields or riding the lawn tractor, taking pride in keeping their yard beautifully maintained. Anyone who knew Kris knew she was rarely seen without a Coca-Cola in her hand. It was, without question, her favorite beverage.

More than anything, Kris treasured her family and friends. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, intelligence, dedication, and unwavering love for those that closet to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morey Bayne; her father, Robert MacKenzie; her stepfather, John Stark; her stepson, Troy Bayne; her mother and father-in-law, Fayne and Melvin Bayne.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Eleanor (Wurst) Stark of Sidney, Nebraska; her children, Kendra Hagan of Lincoln, Nebraska; Travis (Kirsten) Bayne of Windsor, Colorado, Tracy (Ali Baker) Bayne of Hershey, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Jen Bayne of North Platte, Nebraska; her brothers, Ric (Cheryl) MacKenzie of Sidney, Nebraska and Scott (Gayla) MacKenzie of North Platte, Nebraska, Robert MacKenzie (Christine Ambrose) of New York City; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Doug Long of Omaha, Nebraska and Duane and Nancy Bayne of Greely, Colorado; her grandchildren, Taycee Bayne of Hershey, Nebraska, Jessica (Dustin) Markley of Evans, Colorado, Alise Forbes; Brandi Bayne; Allison (Dylan) Woody all of North Platte, Nebraska; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Kris’s legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her generosity, hard work, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever loved and remembered.

A celebration of life will be at a future date. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
