Saul

LaRoy (Roy) S. Saul, age 62, passed away at his home on February 11, 2026. He was born in Lander, WY, to Myron J (Jay) and Dana Saul in June 1963. He grew up in Wyoming and Montana, finally settling in Midwest, WY, where he graduated high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1983 and was sent to basic training at Lackland AFB, TX. He was then sent to Air Traffic Control School in Biloxi, MS. His first assignment was to Spanghalem Air Base, Germany, where he worked controlling air traffic for U.S. and European military and civilian planes. In 1985, he was assigned to Ellsworth AFB, SD, where he met and married Anne in 1988. They welcomed their first daughter, Lynn, in early1990. In December, he was deployed to Operation Desert Storm. He returned in March, 1991, a changed man, suffering from crushing PTSD and nightmares. They welcomed their second daughter, Allycia (Ally), in 1992. In 1995, they were stationed at a Portuguese Air Base #4, Terceira Island, Azores Archipelago, Portugal, where they fully embraced Portuguese culture, enjoying excellent food, weather, and beaches. They moved to Minot AFB, ND, in 1998. Roy retired from Air Traffic Control as a decorated Technical Sergeant, April 2003. His medals include 2 Meritorious Service Medals, a National Defense Service medal with 1 bronze service star, a NATO Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. Roy remained in Minot working various jobs before opening a BBQ restaurant in 2008. After it closed, they moved to Grand Forks, ND, where Roy was a professor at the University of North Dakota teaching IKO rules to Norwegian students. In 2015, he retired from working due to health reasons. He moved with Anne to North Platte, NE, in 2022 and lived the retired life fishing, playing pool, mentoring military veterans, and serving as an Eagles Trustee.
Roy is survived by his wife, Anne, his daughters Lynn and Ally, his grandson, his father, Jay, his sisters, Myra and Rhonda, and his beloved service dog, Zola. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dana. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
His memorial service is Feb 27 at 3 – 4 pm at the Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. A condolence book signing is available on Feb 26 at the Adams Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to 988 Lifeline, a veteran’s service organization.
