IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorin H.
Woltemath
September 9, 1933 – February 24, 2025
Lorin H. Woltemath, age 91, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Linden Court surrounded by family.
Lorin was born to Fred and Esther (Mahler) Woltemath on September 9, 1933, in Sterling, NE. There he was baptized as a Child of God. His family then moved to Beatrice, NE, where he grew up and was confirmed in the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
After graduating from Beatrice High School, Lorin was inspired to serve his country, joining the United States Army. Though he was far from home, he never lost touch with or feelings for his high school sweetheart Betty Jo Tieman. In May when she graduated, he braved the roads and hitch-hiked all the way home from his deployment to marry her. They were wed that very May and to this union was born their beloved children Beth, Vicki, Doug, Michelle, and Chad. After his service, Lorin worked many odd jobs, including but not limited to insurance salesman, vacuum cleaner salesman, nuts and bolts salesman, and many more. He finally settled down at Knapp Electric of North Platte where he was a diligent worker for 25 years. After Betty Jo's passing in 1996, Lorin reconnected with recently widowed church friend, Marian Jahnke. They were wed in 1998 and shortly thereafter moved to Pender, NE. They lived there happily for 5 years before her passing in 2003. Lorin continued living there for 20 more years before returning to North Platte. During this time, he worked many odd jobs and was especially well-known for his work at Ace Hardware.
Lorin was always known as a Jack-of-All-Trades and quite the handyman. There was no problem he ran across that he couldn't fix, from unknotting necklaces to working on a variety of household appliances. He was also a family man with a strong-belief in Christian-family values. He was always up early shining his children's church shoes on Sunday morning and held many offices throughout his life in his congregation and in the Lutheran Laymen's League. Though kept busy with his many obligations, Lorin never knew a stranger, striking up conversations at many ministry events and never missing a church dinner or a fish fry. He was also an avid Husker fan, cheering them on through thick and thin. But even with all his passions, his true passions were Jesus and his family. Though he is now home in heaven, his legacy is lived on through the memories he leaves behind with those here on earth.
Those left to cherish Lorin's memory are his children Beth (Lynn) Sedlacek of North Platte, Vicki Tabke of North Platte, Rev. Doug (Karen) Woltemath of Atkins, IA, Michelle Bain of North Platte, and Chad (Heidi) Woltemath of Saline, MI; step-children Bruce Jahnke, Sandra Jahnke, and Brian Jahnke; grandchildren Tony (Christina) Sedlacek, Amber (Brad) McConville, April (Brian) Dilley, Molly (Josh) Harm, Kadie (Adam) Stokowski, and Kenzie (Jarrod) Brown; brother Lyle (Gini) Woltemath; sister-in-law Bonnie (Bert) Ward; 11 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; nieces; and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife Betty Jo; second wife Marian; stepdaughter Lori Jahnke; sons-in-law Jim Bain and Scott Tabke; sister Louise Braun; and brother-in-law Walter Braun.
