Loyal L. Kohl, age 81, of North Platte, passed away February 4, 2013 at his home. He was born in Wallace, Nebraska to Arthur W. and Alma Watson Kohl on August 8, 1931. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. On April 18, 1953 he married Bonnie Lee Olive in Las Vegas, NV.
Loyal lived in California most of his life. He was an over the road truck driver for 38 years. The last company he drove for was NORCO, hauling propane. He retired in 1988. He moved to North Platte in 2004.
Loyal loved the swap meet in Gardena, CA, where he sold coins, hats and patches on the weekends. He rode his bike looking for change and cans to recycle. He would add up what he collected at the end of the year and it would come to quite an amount. One year he almost collected enough to buy a new pick-up. Family was very important and he visited as much as possible.
When his wife Bonnie passed he was heart broken, she was his one and only, and they were married for 50 years. Loyal was a fun loving man who will be dearly missed by all.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Smith of North Platte; sisters, Karla Meyers and Le Etta Coons both of North Platte; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Brady, Robert Easton, Lorry Easton and Jason (Bella) Kohl; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alma Kohl; wife, Bonnie; son, Larry Kohl; sisters, Delilah Kohl and Karren Binegar; and brothers, Wilbur (Jay) Kohl, Gilbert Kohl and Vernon Kohl.
There will be no local services. Burial will take place in San Pedro, CA. at Green Hills Cemetery next to his wife. Cards may be sent to Cheryl Smith at 1408 Hackberry Road, North Platte, NE 69101.
