Marianne Struempler passed away on December 17, 2022 in North Platte.
Marianne was born on August 12, 1932 on a rural Cozad farm to Pete C. and Ruth (Lorensen) Pedersen. She was the youngest of four children.
She grew up on a farm near Cozad, attended Cozad public schools and graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1949. After High School she attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught in one room schoolhouses near Cozad for several years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She met Arnold Carl Struempler at a church dance and they were married on August 16, 1953. They had 4 children, Marjorie, Douglas, Curtis and Roger.
They started their married life in Oconto, NE. Later they moved to Sioux City, IA and she was a stay-at-home mother. They lived in Kearney, NE for 14 years. At this time she did sewing for others, she started with Barbie Doll clothes, then later did alterations and would sew wedding dresses for young ladies. She worked as a para educator for Kearney public schools when her children were older. They moved to Auburn, NE in 1973 where they ran a local ice cream and sandwich shop. In 1981 they moved to Holdrege, NE where she worked for Shopko – Pamida until her retirement. Holdrege was her home for 40 years. She was known for making crafts, crocheting potholders and dishrags, sewing, making quilts and her cooking – particularly making cookies. She had two kitties that were a very special part of her life. She was never heard to say anything bad about anyone.
She moved to North Platte in 2021 to be closer to family. In August of 2022 she celebrated her 90 th birthday with family. She was a member of the Heartland quilters Club in North Platte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Earl Pedersen; 2 sisters, Jean Andersen and Doris Kjar; and great grandchildren, Ryker, Mackenzie and Garrett Poe.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (David) Kouba of North Platte; sons, Douglas (Beverley) Struempler of Shawnee Kansas, Curtis Struempler of Lincoln and Roger (Darby) Struempler of Firth, NE; grandchildren, Heather (Shane) Irish, Laura (Russ) Poe, Brian (Ashley) Kouba, Matthew (Jacklyn) Struempler, Kirsten Struempler (Keaton Anthony), and Bryce Struempler; 8 great-children, Charlotte, Dominick and Everett Kouba, Rylee and Kinsley Poe, Addison and Liam Irish and Samuel Struempler; sister-in-law, Jo Struempler of Ft. Collins, CO; and nieces and nephews .
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Rev Michael Evans officiating. Burial will be St. John's Lutheran Cemetery north of Cozad. Visitation will be 12-7 Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
