IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Kay
Merksick
July 8, 1947 – October 27, 2025
Marilyn Kay Merksick, age 78, of North Platte, passed away at Centennial Park Retirement Village on October 27, 2025. Kenneth and Esther (Trembly) Hasbrouk welcomed Marilyn into the world on July 8, 1947, in North Platte, one of four children.
In her adolescent years, Marilyn met Nicholas Merksick, who she would eventually fall in love with and marry on February 15, 1964, in North Platte. The two spent 61 beautiful years together, raising 3 children, Nicki, Jacki, and Brad, and making unforgettable memories. Marilyn thrived as a mother, spending her days at home with her kids while they were little. Upon the youngest starting grade school, Marilyn began her lifelong career at Lincoln Elementary as head of the cafeteria, managing the books and keeping track of the student accounts, retiring after over 20 years of devoted service to the school.
Marilyn was known to be a crafter, having the unique talent of hand painting beautiful designs onto shirts, and making exquisite center pieces for the table. She spent hours tending to her flower gardens and took pride in keeping the back yard pool in mint condition. Marilyn was a devoted Cornhusker football fan, held a deep adoration for Elvis Presley and any memorabilia that she could find, and was a part of the Bakers Dozen Bunco Club. She was feisty and straight forward while also possessing qualities of devotion, honesty, and compassion. Marilyn was the piece of the family that kept everyone together.
Survivors include her husband, Nicholas Merksick of North Platte; children, Nicki Bagby of Lions, KS, Jacki Merksick of North Platte, and Brad Merksick of North Platte; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Glenda Isabel, and Peggy Hopper; numerous other family members.
Those that precede her in death are her parents; and brother, Ken Hasbrouk.
