Obituary

Martin Delmar Rotert was born on December 9, 1954 in Sutherland Nebraska to Delmar and Barbara Rotert.  He was raised on the family farm northwest of Sutherland and attended Sutherland Public School.

He was a very smart student and did not have to study hard through his school years. He excelled in sports and had several school records.  He was quarterback of the football team, as well have playing basketball and golf.

Martin also played on the summer baseball teams in Sutherland and ball playing continued on into his every adult years. He played softball for many years in North Platte with friends who he still has years old friendships with.

He had a knack for betting on a winner of anything-horses, dogs, sports teams, and elections.

Martin was an avid golfer and played in many tournaments

He won the "golden putter" at tournament in Florida.  Hunting was another passion that he did from the time he was old enough to shoot a gun. In his early and teen years he and his cousin Jim could be found hunting just about every available minute.  He also hunted with his friends Rick, Don, and Ray for many years. Another fun time was going to Alaska to halibut and salmon fish. Martin also liked to snow ski. His happy place was spending time on his river land and tending to his asparagus patch.  He could spend hours just walking around the land watching the river flow through. At home you could finding him doing crosswords puzzles one after the other and they had to be the hard puzzles, not ones that could be done in five minutes.

Martin did many types of work-installed pivots, ironworker, construction worker, bartender, ran large equipment on a farm, worked at a bait and tackle business.  He was also co-owner of Asbestos Inspection, Inc based out of Wilmington, NC.  With this job he traveled all over the United States and several places overseas and different islands to remove asbestos, mostly from military buildings. He liked when his job to took him to Alaska best of all.   He loved to travel and did alot of it.

He was not able to get out and about much the last two years due to medical issues. His friends of more than 50 years, Rick and Don, made sure he had what he needed while he was homebound. Everyone should have as good of friends as he had.

He was predeceased by his parents, and both sides of grandparents.

He is survived by his sister, Ann Williams. Uncles and aunts, Don and Peg Rotert from Sutherland and Dr. Larry and Kathy Rotert from Kansas and aunt Renae Coburn from Arizona.  Cousins Jim, Dave, and Deb and their spouses and cousins in Oregon as well special friends Rick Anderson, Don Garrick, and Ray Toll.

There will be no funeral service at this time.  Donations in Martin's memory can be made to the Sutherland-Hershey Food Pantry.  The mailing address is 561 Liberty Street, Sutherland, Nebraska 69165.
