Obituary

Mary Evangeline Pieper, age 95, of North Platte, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025. Mary was born May 13, 1929, to John J. and Mary Evangeline (Herrod) Hahler in North Platte, NE.  Mary graduated from St. Patrick's High School with the class of 1946 and attended St. Teresa's College in Winona, Minnesota, completing a degree in Medical Technology in 1951.

While visiting a friend in Iowa, Mary met Bernard Francis "Bernie" Pieper and they were married on August 30, 1952 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, North Platte, NE. The couple lived in Iowa briefly before moving to North Platte where they raised their 11 children on a farm south of North Platte.

Mary was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's parish and served on the first Parish Council. Over many years she enjoyed helping to organize and serve Funeral Dinners, Anointing Mass luncheons and Chrism Mass dinners as well as helping with the parish Barbecue and Christmas Boutique.  You could find her volunteering at the Bargain Bin every third Tuesday and many days in between.

Mary served on the board for North Platte Catholic Schools, of which she and Bernie were faithful supporters and Wall of Honor recipients.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her 11 children Mary F. Wyatt of North Platte; John (Lyn) of Bloomington, IL; Lisa (Steve Bergt) of Anchorage, AK; Dr. Kent (Marilyn) of Farnam, NE; Kurt (Jeanne) of North Platte; LynnAnn (Bobbie Fye) of Lincoln; Mark (Michelle) of Lincoln; David (Ann) of North Platte; Dr. Jay (Cindy) of Lincoln; Kati (Rich) Odbert of Columbus; and Adam (Pam) of Richland; 35 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and many friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Bernie; her parents; infant twins; her brother Jack Hahler and son in law, Roger Wyatt.

Visitation will be held noon - 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Adam Swanson Funeral home which is in charge of arrangements.

Christian Wake Service will be held 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church .

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Vidya Sagar Arikotla officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
