January 31, 1947 – October 10, 2024
Merle Dewey Powell, aged 77, of North Platte, passed away on October 10, 2024, at his daughter's home in the company of his devoted and loyal family. He was born the last day of January in 1947 to Thomas Dewey and Bernice Caroline (Ross) Powell.
In the summer of 1967, Merle was drafted into the United States Army, and was stationed in Korea. He served for two years and then returned to his home in Nebraska. A short time later, in 1973, he met Sheila LaRue and they were wed on June 30, 1973. Upon entering into a union with one another, they brought 6 children into the world, Cristy Bernice, Sheryl Kay, Laura Bettina, Myron Dewey, Marlin Dee, and Melvin DeWayne. The couple made their home in North Platte and Merle began working with the family custom haying, a job he turned into a life long career and passion.
In his life, Merle enjoyed fishing and hunting and partaking in most outdoor activities. He loved to tinker in the mechanical field and had an admiration for his animals. Merle was firm, but soft; he enjoyed spending time with his family.
