Michael Ray
Richards
Sep 26, 1953 — Sep 10, 2026
Michael Ray Richards passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on September 10, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Michael was born on September 26, 1953, to Joseph Scott Richards and Mildred Marie (Arnold) Richards. He grew up in North Platte, Nebraska, and graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School.
From an early age, Michael felt called to serve and help those most in need. He spent his early adult years in the seminary before serving as a Catholic priest in several churches throughout the Grand Island Diocese. His dedication to serving others continued long after his time in the priesthood. Michael worked with individuals experiencing homelessness in several shelters in Omaha and helped open The Christopher House in Kearney, where he was able to support and encourage many people recovering from chemical dependency.
Later in his career, Michael made Omaha his home and worked for First National Bank of Omaha.
Michael was known by his family and friends as a voice of reason. He was always willing to listen, offer thoughtful advice, and be there for anyone who needed him. Above all, Michael was known for his kind heart and his remarkable ability to see the good in everyone. His life was defined by compassion, service, and a genuine desire to help others.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Richards; his brother, Anthony (Tony) Richards; sister-in-law, Kari Richards; and niece, Brenda Brummels.
Those left to cherish Michael’s memory include Todd Chappel; his brothers, Joseph (Scotty) Richards, Steven Richards, and Patrick Richards; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends and family whose lives he touched throughout the years.
Michael will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, compassion, and the many lives he impacted through his willingness to serve others. His legacy will live on in the people he helped, encouraged, and cared for throughout his life.
