Rachel Perez, 85, of North Platte, died April 28, 2020 at Centennial Park Retirement Village. She was born October 11, 1934 in Grand Island to Mary Gomez and was raised by her grandparents Tom and Georgia Arellano in the Maxwell and North Platte area.

Rachel married Ruben Perez July 4, 1955. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital and Tuckers Restaurant. Rachel opened La Casita in 1962 and continued operating it until 2003.

The center of Rachel's life was her family and her faith. She was the rock and the glue that helped keep her family together. Rachel enjoyed her days off and dedicated them to family and her employees and will be remembered for her Monday luncheons and thrift store shopping. She always cared about everyone around her and her patience was one of her greatest virtues. Rachel loved her cats. She was a member of the Apostolic Worship Center.

Rachel is survived by her husband Ruben Perez of North Platte; sons Gary Perez of Cozad, Tony "Biggie" Perez of North Platte, Thomas Eric (Wendy) Perez of Bellevue; daughters, Deborah Ann Heglin of North Platte, Stephanie "Itsy" Bolden of North Platte, Kelly (Kevin) Kotarek, Wisconsin; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas and Georgia Arellano; mother, Mary Gomez; son, Rubin "Andy" Perez; brother, Dean Arellano; sisters, Evelyn Martinez and Patty Bowen.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday May 5, 2020 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with Reverend Brandon Looney officiating. Burial will follow at the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be noon-8:00 p.m., Monday May 4, 2020 with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 p.m. at Adams & Swanson funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
