IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rhonda Jane
Battershell
August 22, 1958 – May 13, 2025
Rhonda Jane Battershell, age 66, of Paxton, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Great Plains Health.
Rhonda was born in North Platte on August 22, 1958, to Robert and Clara (Carland) Goudy.
In her youth, Rhonda met the love of her life Steven Battershell, and they were wed May 21, 1974. To this Union were born their beloved children Stevie and Heather. Steven and Rhonda wanted to always be available to their children, and so Rhonda worked as a homemaker until her children left the nest. Once she was sure her kids would be okay, Rhonda started working at White-Musselman Hearing Aide Center in 1993. In 2010, she switched focus and worked for Gerald Gentleman Station as a security guard.
Rhonda was a well-traveled woman. In 2007, she and Steven took a trip to Las Vegas, but it wasn't until her first solo trip to West Virginia in 2013 that she was truly bitten by the travel-bug. After that trip, Rhonda traveled to every state on the Eastern side of the country. She visited faraway relatives and friends she'd met on the internet, and of course made some new friends along the way. But for all her travels, Rhonda never forgot her family back home.
Throughout her tenure as a homemaker, Rhonda filled the mother-role not only for her own children, but also for all of their friends. Though she was known to be strict, her tough love kept many of her "adopted" children on the straight-and-narrow. They always knew that she was an adult they could count on. While being a stay-at-home mom, she also babysat for two special little girls, Sara and Joanna Engelman. They held a special place in her heart and she will forever hold a place in their memories. As Sara or her mom might say, Rhonda made the best fries and she'd teach you how to make them too! Though Rhonda was often busy with family, she refused to neglect her passions. She was a huge fan of Dwight Yoakam, a master of finding deals at garage sales, and an avid tracker of genealogy.
Those left to cherish Rhonda's memory are her husband of 50 years Steven, Battershell; son Stevie (Danielle) Battershell of North Platte; daughter Heather Battershell of North Platte; grandchildren Stephanie Lee of North Platte, Rebecka Cordova of North Platte, Jacob Battershell of Columbus, Alexis Battershell of Columbus, and her angel baby Mila Battershell of North Platte; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters Becky Negley, Jennifer Brown, Bobby Martin, Marilyn Halmes; brother Clayton Goudy; special cousins Justin and Tanya of Parkersburg, WV; and numerous other friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Clara; step-dad Elmer Negley; parents-in-law Babe and Ethel Battershell; favorite Gram Lydia Carland; and sister Cleta Pribnow.
Cremation has been chosen by the family. Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
