Richard Michael VanHouten, age 65 of North Platte, passed from this life Thursday November 27, 2014 at his home.
Richard was born January 29, 1949 in Bloomfield, NE to Lawrence and Dorothy (Kadlec) VanHouten. He married Ronda Houchin on Jun 19, 1992 in North Platte at the Calvary Baptist Church. The couple moved to Lincoln where he sold cars until they returned to North Platte to work together at the 1st Interstate Inn as both facility and district managers. After that, they moved to Elm Creek as owners of the 1st Interstate Inn until retiring and returning to North Platte. He was an avid sports fan, he loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife Ronda; daughters Shelly and Jamie, as well as daughter Deb (Barry) Allen of North Platte; sons Frank (Sarah) VanHouten, Travis (Becky) Johns, and Dale (Shanna) Johns all of North Platte; brothers Ronald VanHouten of Columbus, Dennis (Bonnie) VanHouten of Winside, and Doug (Vicky) VanHouten of Stanton; and 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Dorothy Ellen VanHouten; and brother Kenneth.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Riverside Baptist Church with Pastor Dwane Johnson officiating. Burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Sutherland. Visitation will be 9:00 until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
