Robert Lee Smith, aged 79, stepped out of time and into eternity on July 31, 2023, in North Platte.  He was born August 11, 1943, to Hugh and Hazel (Anderson) Smith in Ogalala, NE.

Robert grew up and attended school in Ogalala with three brothers and a sister.  In a home with four children, the house was always quite active.  Robert joined his brother, Jim, and dad, Hugh, in the painting business.  He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing with his brothers.  He traveled often, especially throughout the Midwest: Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas.  Robert could start a conversation with anyone and was not shy in sharing personal life experiences.  Later in life, he spent several years as a butcher for various grocer's including Safe-Way, IGA, Food Lion, among others.  He then fell back into the painting business and resided in North Platte until his passing.

Robert was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Don Smith, Ralph Smith, Jim Smith, and Shirley Reese-Patterson; his son, Shawn Smith; daughter, Leann Parish; nephew, Ronnie Smith.

He is survived by a son, Troy Smith of Callaway; daughter, Crystal Murn of Merna; nieces and nephews, Gary Smith of Lincoln, Barbara Smith of North Platte, and Richard Smith of Omaha, Dean Patterson of Wichita, KS, Sandi Menzies of Wichita, KS, Ruth Dombroski of Louisville, CO, Debra Milligan of Keenesburg, CO, Ryan Smith of Stockton, MS, Steven Smith of Westminster, CO, Kelly Smith of Ormond Beach, FL, Calvin Smith of Cleburne, TX, Kevin Smith of Wylie, TX.

Robert will be laid to rest near his mother, Hazel, at the Ogalala Memorial Cemetery.
