Ronald Dean Ostendorf, 74, of North Platte, passed away May 10, 2022 at Great Plains Health. He was born on October 16, 1947 to Cobus and Roberta (Kaylor) Ostendorf in Gothenburg.
Ronald graduated from Gothenburg High School with the class of 1966. He managed a DX station on the interstate at Gothenburg. He then worked at a filling station in Omaha. Ronald hired on with Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha and transferred to North Platte in the 80's. He worked as a fireman/oiler until retirement in 2013. Ronald and his long-time companion, Emma Hiatt, loved to travel, fish, and gamble. He will be remembered as an excellent dancer. Ronald was full of life and loved to laugh. He had many connections with his family and friends, never knowing a stranger. Loved Christmas lights and always had a beautiful display.
Survivors include Emma Hiatt of North Platte; siblings, Darold (Judy Smith) Ostendorf of Gothenburg, Darlene Underwood of Gothenburg, Doug (Nan) Ostendorf of Gothenburg, Diane Kildare of Lincoln; Leroy Ostendorf of Gothenburg, Robert (JoAnn) Ostendorf of Gothenburg, Angie Ostendorf of Amherst, Lois (Steve) Hinman of Cozad; step-children Randy (Teresa) Hiatt of Alliance, Kal Hiatt of North Platte; grandchildren, Brandon (Anna) Hiatt of Commerce City, CO, Erin (Erik) Erickson of Conifer, CO; great grandchildren, Abby, Hunter, Eli; special friends, Steve and Sally Schaffer of North Platte, Harlan and Connie Goody of Lincoln, Greg and Sherry McGinn of North Platte; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents Cobus Ostendorf and Roberta (Ostendorf) Trimble; brothers, Gene, Lawrence, and an infant brother; step-father, Lewis Trimble; nephews, Tim Kildare and Ryan Ostendorf; brother-in-law, Tim Kildare.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 16, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home with pastor Anne Durboraw officiating. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be held noon-6:00 P.M., with family present 4:00-6:00, Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
