In 1987, she married Ermon Eugene (Gene) Hubbard, where she gained two stepdaughter’s and a stepson Krista Hubbard, Ketty Strake, and Kurt Hubbard, so her family was complete. The year 1993 brought new changes, Gene and Shirley loaded up and moved back to Nebraska and bought a ranch so she could live out her longtime dream of raising registered quarter horses. during this time, she spent 30 years as a volunteer EMT firefighter for the Maxwell fire and rescue. Gene died a very peaceful death in 2022. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grands and her miniature schnauzer Wessen.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 3, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Maxwell. A dinner will follow the service. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
