On October 7, 2023, Shirley Mae Sylvan, of Brady, NE, passed away at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 79. The daughter of LeRoy and Violet (Gosnell) Gage, Shirley was born on February 23, 1944, in Maxwell, NE.
On July 21, 1962, Shirley was wed to Leo Sylvan; they spent over 61 years of marriage together. To this union, three children were born, Sue, Loren, and Nancy. The couple lived North of Gothenburg until 1997 and then moved to Brady, where they resided until her passing. Shirley worked various jobs throughout her life but she most enjoyed being a caregiver. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Shirley enjoyed the grandchildren's sporting activities and her phone calls to them. She like the old Christian music, especially Elvis Presley along with western movies, Audie Murphy was one of her favorites. Roses were her favorite flower and her home was always decorated. She loved decorating for the Christmas season. Shirley gave her life to the Lord at a young age and stayed committed to Him for the entirety of her life.
Those left to cherish Shirley's memory include her husband, Leo; children, Sue (Ron) Coles, Loren (Heather) Sylvan, Nancy (Federico) Garcia; grandchildren, Kristina Buhrman, Jeff (Jamie) Buhrman, Tiffany Gleason, Logan Sylvan, Dalton Sylvan, Cameron (MaKenna) Sylvan, Brandon Sylvan, and Ernesto Rodriguez; six great grandchildren, Peyton and Peysley Buhrman, Stella and Charlotte Buhrman, Easton Sylvan, and Byn Sylvan; brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Gage; sister, Donna (Everett) Hunt; numerous other family members and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her brother, Robert Gage.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 1 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Dave Logsdon officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Gothenburg Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 12 PM to 7 PM at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
