O'Rourke
September 10, 1950 – September 20, 2021
Stephen S. O'Rourke, 71, of North Platte, passed away September 20, 2021 at Great Plains Health in North Platte. Steve was born September 10, 1950, in North Platte to Van D. and Joan (Stephenson) O'Rourke.
Stephen grew up in North Platte, and attended North Platte Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1968. He started his career with the Union Pacific Rail Road at the age of 17 and continued this career for 40 years. He joined the Army National Guard in 1972 and served for 6 years. Stephen married Karla Gifford on August 6, 1972, to this union 3 children were born, Scott, Stacey and Kari. They made their home in North Platte. Stephen belonged to the American Legion, Eagle's and Gun clubs. He loved Husker games, collector of all sizes of cars, drive able and model cars and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Stephen loved his grandkids and family immensely. He loved playing catch with his grandkids and pushing the grandkids on the swing. More than anything, he loved his wife so much and modeled the perfect relationship with her for his kids to see.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Karla, North Platte; children, Scott (McKenna) O'Rourke, Kearney, Nebraska, Stacey (Rob) King, Lee Summit, Missouri, and Kari (Ryan) Grigg, North Platte, Nebraska; grandchildren, Kaylee and Chloe King, Kasey and Kenzie O'Rourke, Karter, Reese, Konnor and Rayn Grigg; brothers, Bob (Barb) O'Rourke and Todd O'Rourke along with numerous other family members.
Preceded in death by his parents, Van and Joan O'Rourke; father & mother-in-law, John and Arleen Gifford; and brother, James O'Rourke.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's or First Lutheran Church in memory of Stephen.
Services will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, September 27, 2021 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Patrick Sipes officiating. Book signing will be on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
