Obituary

Twyla Mae Shadonix, age 90 formerly of Arnold, passed away at the Callaway Good Life Center on Thursday February 26, 2015.
Twyla was born on May 28, 1924 in Stapleton, NE to John M. and Edna A. (Willoughby) Layher. She grew up in the area and attended country schools in Logan County, graduating from Stapleton High School in 1941. She took normal training while in high school and after graduation she taught in McPherson County. She later worked with her dad at Gunderson Plumbing in North Platte. On April 4, 1945 she married Charles "Owen" Shadonix at St. John's Rectory in Stapleton. The couple lived on the farm on Garfield Table Road until 1961 when they bought the Remington Arms Motel in Ainsworth. After selling the motel in 1975 the family moved to North Platte, then on to Arnold around 1978 and built a home there. In 2011 she moved to the nursing home in Callaway. Twyla enjoyed knitting, crafts, shopping and was a good cook. She also belonged to St. John's Catholic Church and the Busy Country Homemakers Extension Club.
Twyla is survived by 4 nieces Sharon (Chub) Dailey of Stapleton, Glenda (George) Winters of Garden City, KS, Vickie (Kevin) Curtis of North Platte and Debbie (Larry) Myers of Stapleton; a nephew Duane (Jeroldine) Schlientz of Almogordo, NM; as well as numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Owen in 1991; and a great-great nephew Zachary Winters; 2 sisters Ethel (Clarence) Pinkerton and LeVerna (Leslie) Schlientz; and an infant brother Orville Layher.
Memorials are suggested to the Callaway Good Life Center and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday March 4, 2015 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with Reverend James Novakowski officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
