Obituary

Verlon Ray VanNatta, 77, of Maywood, passed away June 7, 2021, at his home in Maywood. He was born April 26, 1944, in Curtis, NE and was the third son Gerald Lane and Bertha (Effenbeck) VanNatta.

Verlon was named after of fallen soldier that his mom read about in the newspaper during WWII. He attended country school and graduated from Maywood High School with the class of 1963. Verlon farmed for several years, raised hogs and worked for several neighbors, including Bernie Zwickle and Dr. Connell, throughout the years. After his father passed, he stayed home to care for his mother. He was a member and former deacon at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis. Verlon loved to fish, hunt, trap and his dog Bear.

Survivors include his brother, Gerald (Elizabeth) VanNatta, North Platte; nephew, Lane (Lindsay) VanNatta, Gothenburg; niece, Jennifer (Jason) Hawkins, Cripple Creek, AZ; aunt, Lila Effenbeck, North Platte; 6 great-nieces and nephews and many cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Bertha; and his brother, Robert.

Services will be Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Curtis, Ne., with Pastor David Keating officiating. Lunch will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m., at the North Platte Cemetery, North Platte, NE.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
