Obituary

William “Bill” Lloyd House, 72, of North Platte, NE, passed away on May 7, 2026, at Great Plains Health Hospital.

Bill was born May 14, 1953, in Scottsbluff, NE, to Harold and Bettie (Poland) House. Bill grew up on the family farm and graduated from Minatare High School in 1971. The following year, he started his law enforcement career as a dispatcher with the Scottsbluff County (NE) Sheriff’s Department. He traveled across the state to then work for the Norfolk (NE) Police Department.

Bill continued in law enforcement by working as a deputy at the Scottsbluff County Sheriff’s Department. In 1977, he was appointed as the Pierce County (NE) Sheriff, making him the youngest sheriff in Nebraska at that time. He held this position until 1984, when he transitioned to work for the Internal Revenue Service. This new position brought him to North Platte, NE, where he remained. Bill retired from the IRS in 2015 and hasn’t looked back since.

Bill married Charlotte Hardisty in Norfolk, NE, July 1975 and together they raised three children: Machelle, Michael, and Amy. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always there to offer guidance and support. Bill was the most kind and compassionate man who was cherished by all his family and friends. His love of Jesus was reflected in his everyday life. He loved to share the Word and wished for everyone to know the Lord.

Survivors include daughters Machelle Owens of North Platte, NE, and Amy (John) Nelson of North Platte, NE; sister, Jeanie (Jerry) Kilthau of Gering, NE; grandchildren Tyler Austin, Nicole (Andrew) Poellinger, Alexa (Corey) McDonald, Forrest Williams, Tate Nelson, and Cooper Nelson, and three great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Bettie, brother Kenton House, and son Michael Williams.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Bill will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love he gave so freely and the light he brought to the lives around him.
