IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
N. Hendrix
July 31, 1934 – November 6, 2024
William "Bill" Newton Hendrix, aged 90, passed away on November 6, 2024, at North Platte Care Center. He was born the third child to Clifton and Bernice (Gambee) Hendrix in Maitland, MO, on July 31, 1934.
After attending school in Maitland up to the fourth grade, Bill's family moved to the farm where he held his first job at 9 years old, making a dollar a day, driving horses for haying. Due to his dad's farming lifestyle, the family continued to move around and in Iowa is where Bill graduated high school. He worked various jobs upon graduating and went on to join the Army in 1956. In December of 1958, he was honorably discharged and married Leona Osborn. The couple made their home in Keystone, NE and raised their five children: Clif, Laura, Kerry, Brenda, and Steven. Bill worked as ranch help and for John Deere. After the kids graduated, Bill and Leona moved to Flagler, CO where Bill worked as a farmer for 18 years. In 2014, the couple moved back to Nebraska to the town of Sutherland where they stayed until their health declined and they moved to North Platte.
Bill's hobbies included playing cards, playing guitar and singing when he was younger, gardening, and feeding the squirrels. He was ornery and always had a pocketful of candy to hand out.
Survivors include his children, Clif (Dori) Hendrix, Lori (the late Paul) Cartwight, Kerry Hendrix, Brenda (Dale) Bode, and Steve (the late Chris) Hendrix; 8 grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Myers, Kami (Travis) Schmitz, Kathryn (Drew) Winston, Willie (Angel) Moreen, Logan Anderson, Colton Hendrix, William Hendrix, and Savannah Hendrix; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Peggy, Darrell, and Lila Sue (Dennis); several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
